1951 Ford F8 Semi with 1953 Stuart trailer both beautifully restored
Ever want to haul several of your rides to a show but didn"t have the right method of transport. Put your rides on this and leave em breathless at the gate. I have a beautifully restored 1951 Ford F8 Big Job semi truck, and Stewart triple axle trailer restored by legendary Ford collector Rod Kruithoff famous for cornering the market on 1950s Marmon Herrington Fords. He restored this combo in 1991 to bring his show pieces to various shows across the United States.
I grew up as a teenager just down the road from his business and had the pleasure of watching him and his crew restore 50s era Fords he brought in from all over the country. This 1951 F8 and 1953 Stuart trailer were the apex of his collection, the real working useable show pieces. I admired them for the last 25 years or so until I had the opportunity to put them in my own collection and use the pair to transport my own cars and projects with the same wow factor. The unfortunate part is my collection has grown beyond the capacity of my storage hence the sale of this pair.
The details: 1951 Ford F8 with a low mileage 361 OHV Gas V8 gas engine, Rod got the inside scoop from a friend that worked at the local school bus garage that had been crashed with less than 20k miles on it, this truck received the rear Good Year 9:00-20 Extra traction grip tires and two speed splitter style rear end from that bus, the transmission is a 1984 5th Over I believe it is a New Process and is also same, low mileage and does not howl along like the older manual gear boxes did. And of course the low mileage engine which runs perfect.
Everything was either rebuilt or near new, since he was going to be on the road with this truck going from show to show. The front tires were new Good year 9:00-20 Traction high milers and have only 3300 miles on them. The air brakes, engine, driveline clutch all work wonderfully and need nothing other than routine maintenance, this truck drives easily down the road with one finger on the wheel and will cruise at normal Hi-Way speeds of 70-75 mph. It has 3 fuel tanks totaling 120 gallon Rod said, one behind the seat in the cab and the beautiful dual saddle Michigan Safety Tank with a tank valve located on the floor in the cab, all work as they should. All blinkers and lights work as they should even the interior cab light works. This truck had a frame off nut and bolt restoration including the Holland fifth wheel hitch, in 1991, before all the cheap Chinese junk invaded our country like today. And because Rod had cornered the market on 1950s Fords a lot of this truck was rebuilt with genuine NOS Ford parts. Since its full resto between him and myself the truck has been driven 3300 miles which isn"t a ton, but enough time to sort out, and weed out any gremlins on it, and the trailer. I have had NO problems whatsoever with this truck and trailer and have done only standard maintenance oil changes rear end and gearbox oil, and replaced two light bulbs. The truck and trailer both show excellent but they have been used and there are a few little chips nicks and scratches here and there from being used, there are a few scratches in the trailer deck and it will need a new coat of sealer on the deck of the trailer in the near future, but nothing like a normal fleet truck, this combo has been babied and always been stored indoors in a climate controlled building.
The trailer is a 1953 Stuart that comes with its own Michigan clear title and overall measures 44" long the lower deck measures 8"-1/2 wide and 36" long 6"-2 between fenders, the upper deck measures 6"-2 wide 7"-4 long the trailer was originally used for hauling hay so winter use wasn"t an issue, Rod told be they shortened the trailer 10" because a 36" deck was all he needed, the tires are heavy ply tires all a matching and in great space including the spare. The trailer is a Stuart professionally built all 6 American steel channel with two 6 heavy H beams as the main supports, the trailer was professionally shortened blasted primed and painted in 1991 as well. Both truck and trailer have clear Michigan titles in my name. The combination is insured by Hagerty and was appraised for $75k replacement value.
This is a rare opportunity to own a very nice piece of history that you can actually hop in and use. In some of the pictures there is a car on the trailer that is NOT included in the sale. The truck original drive of this truck has many cool stories that pertain to this F-8 that span many years he ended up buying it after he retired from driving and was allowed to purchase this truck later on. So it has a lot of fun stories I"d be happy to share. Serious inquiries 616-218-64five four. Clear Michigan titles in my name in hand for both.
Here is a video you can see of it running and driving. here
