1964 Mack B61T Single Axle Day Cab Tractor, with Air Tag Axle Conversion #B61T49783
B61T with the original Mack NA-673-P diesel engine and TRD-720 duplex transmission.
This truck was last registered in the late 1990"s, and appears to have had very good care.
Excellent single rail frame. No frame damage or corrosion at all. The air tag axle is a slide-in conversion. That is, the frame rails for the tag assembly are mounted inside the frame rails of the truck, and require no modifications or welding on the truck frame. It could be easily removed, or made operational, whichever you prefer. The air tag axle was a popular and inexpensive method to allow an increase in the vehicle"s gross weight capacity. The controls for the air axle are mounted on the steering column - see the pictures. I haven"t tried to use this assembly, and I would assume that the air bags will need replacing.
The front axle on this truck was reportedly completely rebuilt from hub to hub, including new kingpins and bushings, just prior to being taken out of service. I met and talked with the mechanic who did the work. I have no reason to doubt this, as the truck steers and drives very solidly with no shimmy or shake. The clutch and brakes function well.
The cab, floors and rockers are in very good condition. The cab does look like it suffered a light jackknife incident sometime in its" past. There is some body filler in the right rear cab corner, and the dents inside the cab look like a trailer kissed it. Not bad, but will need some hammer and dolly work to be perfect. Part of a small fleet of Macks that I purchased a few years ago, this unit came to me from a roofing supply company in southern New York, and as such, probably had minimal winter usage, hence the lack of rust damage. The fenders and doors are above average, but pretty typical for a truck of this vintage. Some dents and minor rust in the fenders. Nothing really bad, but will require repair if you are going to restore the truck. (see photos) Or I can sell you an original rust-free set of fenders.
Although it hasn"t been run in a couple of years, I started and drove this truck around quite a bit when I brought it home. It ran really sweet and smooth; drove, steered and stopped just like it should! Actually, I put some miles on it, because it was so much fun! No real problems at all. I am sure that with some batteries, we could start and drive this right on your trailer. I can provide batteries for starting, but the batteries are not included in the sale.
As with all of my old Macks, the Mack factory build sheet, sales history and the Mack Historic Truck Museum literature package is included.
Vehicle is sold as is, where is with no warranty or guarantee either expressed or implied. I can help you load onto your trailer, or arrange shipping for you at reasonable rates.
The truck is sold with a notarized Bill of Sale, as the original New York registration was lost in a shop fire prior to my purchase. There should be no issues with obtaining a new registration and title. As a dealer, I can assist you with that process if needed.
This is a project that I am not going to get to, and it is time to let someone else enjoy it. It is a nice straight and complete truck to start from, and will make someone a very nice toy!
I do have other B models and one AC model Mack truck available, and I have a huge selection of parts to help with your Mack project.
