Selling this 1967 Seagrave K-model 100ft. aerial that I"ve owned about 8 years. Used it in many parades and shows, including driving many hours to Syracuse for SPAAMFAA National Convention in 2011. The huge Waukesha F817 Inline 6 has always run great. New alternator put on it about 6 years ago for trouble free running. Like most Waukeshas I"ve heard about, she starts off slightly temperamental but after warming up a few minutes she"s strong and reliable. Basic 5 speed transmission always ran smoothly in all gears. There"s a Mico Lock for the brakes, but no standard parking brake (the lever is there, the mechanism is long gone).
Originally served Stillwater, Oklahoma (where it was painted all white) then to Vergennes VT, where it was retired 9 years ago.
All the hydraulics have always worked great, used the ladder many times for demonstration, roof repairs, hanging banners, etc. Comes with most of her original ground and roof ladders, except two of the short roof ladders that never came with the truck when I got it in the first place. Two Circle D lights, ladder pipe with tip, adjustable nozzle (that doesn"t seem to fit the ladder pipe without a thread adapter, but it came with the truck so it goes with it), jack plates, booster hose. It originally had a booster pump, that was removed many years ago.
Loads of compartments including some that cross the whole width of the body. Rust is very mininal, this is one solid built truck. Interior is decent except the seat cushions, and there is a very nice headliner some had installed.
Truck is NOT CURRENTLY DRIVEABLE due to two needed repairs. First, and the reason she"s been sidelined the past year, is the failure of the brakes (limited to the front drivers side as of the last time driven, but she"d lose a lot of fluid from the line I had to break and pinch off in order to drive it from where it failed, and that was a sketchy situation, a few pumps and she"s not stopping anymore. Second, the clutch has become very slow to engage when you let the pedal up. Makes it hard to get going from a stop. This problem developed also about a year ago. I never had a chance to dig into the possible cause. Oh and it will probably need a new battery or two.
Lights all worked last I checked, the Federal Beacon 184 worked great, the Q siren sounded beautiful, the Mars light on the nose lights up but stopped moving a couple of years ago, may be a simple fix. No working horn at this time, the airhorn that Stillwater"s mechanic ran through the light housing is hooked to an ancient compressor under the seat, which has died.
This truck"s other main problem is that the paint job is starting to fail in several places. Some noticeable peeling has occurred. Will need attention. Maybe someone wants to make it all white again? Crack in drivers side window, but its held together fine all the years I"ve had it.
Pick up locally in Crown Point, NY, two hours straight north of Albany, 30 minutes off I-87. Need a big tractor trailer to haul it. I have no problem holding it up to 60 days if paid in full. Truck is for sale in other venues, reserve the right to pull the auction if it sells at the desired price outside of eBay. Deposit in 72 hours, full payment within two weeks by cash or bank check please. Hoping to find a good home for this tough old truck, with a little TLC she"s got a lot of life left in her.
