Up for your consideration is our 1976 American LaFrance Century Series 50-foot TeleSqurt. We are the third owner after her two in-service public service runs were up in 2011. (She ran with a larger Washington state FD from 1976 to about 2000, then to a smaller fire district in the Evergreen State until 2011, when we purchased her here on eBay in April 2011).
The decision to release this from our organization is due to moving away from aerial apparatus in lieu of engines.
    This apparatus claims:
Seating for five: driver, two passenger individual seats in-cab, and two rear-facing jump seats (with SCBA brackets and back pads)
50-foot, TeleSqurt aerial with tailboard controls; aerial operates as it should (extends/retracts, rotates, remote nozzle functions correctly).
500 gallon fiberglass tank (per FD that sold it to us); aside from the usual drips, tank appears to hold water as it should. MC Water level gauge appears to function correctly when last filled with water about 2 years agoPump is operational, was last tested and passed NFPA test in April 2011 (prior to sale to us); we"ve unofficially flowed it with a calibrated gauge in 2013 and found its 1500 GPM pump was performing only to about 1150 GPM
Working rear outriggers controlled at the rear tailboard and driven from the PTO
Tire tread is good, though are older
No hose bed cover or hooks ("open air" hose bed); dual crosslay is also uncoveredOnan generator connected to fuel tank; unknown condition, but has red vinyl cover availableFront warning lights (Code 3 MX7000 mini bars) are clear, highway legal lights; rear warning lights are amber lenses (also highway legal); photos black out light domes that were removed as applicable
All official-looking lettering and emblems have been removed
All those glorious ALF factory-mounted emblems are present and intact (not stripped off by the FD upon sale, and we don"t play that game, either). We updated the rear turn/tail lights and DOT marker lights to LED on the rear.We also added the 6 reflective white stripe all around, and included "dots" on the rear to continue the stripe around back
She"s not without battle scars, but was repainted in 2000 (from traditional red to safety/lime green). Usual dents and dings for a nearly 40-year-old apparatus, but she"s still good to go for all intensive purposes.
There are a handful of known issues noted below, but issues unknown to us (obviously) aren"t noted -- you"re welcome to arrange personal inspection at the truck"s location in the San Francisco East Bay Area.
Over time, the fly section of the ladder and TeleSqurt self-extend; over 90 days that translates to about 3 feet before it seems to stop. We don"t run her enough to know if more regular use would mitigate the issue, or if there"s another gremlin going on.The air system is stubborn to fill when you first fire up the rig; builds fine to about 70psi, then hovers there for some time. It"s sufficient to release the brake and drive, and within 5 minutes of roadway driving builds to the expected 120psi cutout.Odometer does not work (so mileage is forever 152,103; failed on the drive home, and haven"t fixed it). Unofficial logs we keep suggest we"re hovering at about 1,500-2,000 miles since it failed, which includes about 750 miles of the rig"s drive to its current homeThe engine shut-down handle/cable seized up; can be shut down by sliding the lever under the hood. (Not elegant, but a functional, workaround.)
Overall, good paint with a nice glossy finish, and given she"s lime green, much of the impressions of past lettering are not as obvious as with red rigs. Doors have some scrape marks
This sale listing is for the truck only - loose equipment, caps, valves, ladders and tools are not included. There is no siren nor siren speaker, nice and road legal for private collectors. Again, there are no red lights nor official emblems on the vehicle.
Vehicle currently registered in California DMV and bears Historic Vehicle plates (valid through June 2016). Just add your own insurance and drive her home, nice "n legal.
Depending on your plans to remove vehicle from our storage (30 days included with purchase price, more time available on arrangement). As with any used vehicle listing, it is being offered as-is, where-is, with all known issues noted above. Other questions, or to submit a Best Offer, use the eBay mechanisms as provided including the messaging service.
Additional photos are available upon request. Questions? Please post them through the listing.
There is a nominal reserve, but our hope and intent is to find her a new home for a still-strong rig -- with some personality -- and is coming up for sale to reduce the apparatus we have, reflecting those that are used versus need a home to be used and operated more regularly.
