This 2003 Freightliner FC-80/ Elgin Crosswind Series J Street Sweeper is a good running and working street sweeper that was just retired from a local municipaity.
Only 83K miles, it"s powered by a Cummins diesel with 9631 HRS and a four speed auto trans. The sweeper motor is a John Deere with 7959 HRS and also works well. Features include dual controls, air brakes, cruise control, and a Kenwood CD stereo. The GVWR is 32,000 lbs and the wheelbase measures 152. (250 overall length)
The body is straight, but there is some rust on the box, (see photos) the body also has the usual chips and scratches that a thirteen year old working vehicle will get, but nothing out of the ordinary. There are also some glue stains on the doors from removal of the city decals.
Inside, everything looks good and seems to work well, but the right side window does not close all the way, and the headliner is beginning to sag.
Mechanically it starts right up and idles nicely. The brakes are strong, the transmission shifts well and it can be driven at freeway speeds. Brooms and vac work well, but the city reports that the plastic water tank leaks.
A good running sweeper that could use some TLC but is ready to go to work for you. Low Reserve!
