Owner Operator selling his second truck. 2006 Freightliner Century. Sleeper/condo double bunk. Truck has a 14 LTR (DDEC V) series 60 Detroit Diesel that had a $15,000 total inframe done about 3 years ago. 10 speed manual transmission. This truck does NOT use/need DEF. All is in great shape including the A/C, which blows super cold. The stock radiator was replaced with a copper/brass unit ($1,700) instead of the cheapie aluminum/plastic one that the truck came with. Also, a new air compressor was just installed. The truck is very clean, and well taken care of, but because it is my second truck, and has developed an issue that I do not have the patience to deal with, so I have decided to sell it. Here is the info:
I bought this truck 6 years ago and drove it coast to coast for years. Two years ago, I bought a new truck and put a friend of mine into this one as my driver on a dedicated route from Crossville TN to Chicago 3 times per week. My friend drove it for 6 months and then had to stop driving for medical reasons. The truck sat next to my house for 6 months. I found another driver and took the truck to the shop to have it serviced. I noticed that it developed a miss, so I had the shop check it out. They said that it needed an injector ($550 each), but because I take care of my equipment and try to head off problems before they appear, I had the shop replace all 6 of them. It was odd to me that it was an injector issue because it was not long since it had the inframe during which all of the injectors were replaced, but I am not a mechanic. Anyway, the repair did not solve the issue, it still had the miss, so now the shop said that it needed a new ECM ($2,800). I did not have a choice, so we replaced it also. Still, the miss was there. I got upset at all of the money spent with no improvement in the truck and then my new driver decided to drive for somebody else, so I took the truck to a different shop. They called in a Detroit Diesel technician from America"s biggest glider kit company that is just down the road from me (google Crossville TN glider kit) and you will see who came out. The guy said that the injectors, ECM, and all sensors are running perfectly. Of course, I just replaced them all!!! He said that the problem is with the EGR valve. It had been replaced about 6 months prior to me losing my driver for about $1,200. The tech suggested that I get rid of the EGR system completely by reprogramming the ECM and replacing the Exhaust Manifold and Turbo. He knows a guy that will do it for about $4,000, although I am sure that it can be done much cheaper than that. I had just replaced the turbo 1 1/2 years ago for $4,200 at Freightliner!! At this point, without a driver, I just do not see the reason to fix, or keep, my extra truck. Honestly, I am getting tired of trucking anyway after 37 years. So, I am selling my truck. It is in great condition because it always got top notch care. The inside is in impeccable condition except for 1 or 2 cracks in the dashboard. Everything other than the EGR is also in very good condition. This will need to be repaired before you can use the truck for any serious work. It can however be bobtailed a reasonable distance. The shop was using my truck to move trailers in the yard for about 4 months while I have been debating selling the truck, or not. I finally decided. Starting bid is $5,000 with a very low reserve price.
Truck is located at my shop about 20 miles north of Crossville TN (exit #317 on I-40). Pickup is available anytime during normal business hours, and also on weekends with prior notice.
