I have decided to sell my 1993 Ford L900 and Kaufman car trailer. I took the rig out of service at the end of last year to have the trailer rewired and ended up finding a deal on a 4 car rollback that I just couldn"t pass up. I am a licensed car dealer and used this truck and trailer to transport vehicles from auction to my facility. In the time I"ve owned it, the entire set up has been completely reliable. I am registered as a private carrier and only use the truck locally for my own transportation so she doesn"t get used too hard. In fact, it has only been driven 1,500 (that"s right, fifteen hundred) miles since it"s last annual inspection. The tractor is a single axle daycab 1993 Ford L900. It is in good condition for its age. The frame rails are straight and smooth. The cab and body also show well for their age. The only rust I saw on the cab is up inside the wheel wells...again, not bad for an old truck. The truck is painted light gray (not a show quality job but it is presentable). All of the glass and lenses are intact. The wheels are 24.5 alloys. They"d probably polish up if you spent some time on them. The rear tires are Michellin"s which are in good condition with plenty of tread and no visible dry rot. The steers are Dunlop and are brand new (less than 1,000 miles on them). Mechanically, the truck is in good condition. It has the 11.1L Detroit engine that makes 350hp. She fires right up and does not smoke regardless of how long she sits. I keep the truck and trailer indoors so she is never out in the elements and is always plugged in when it"s cold. There is also an ether injection set up on the truck by the previous owner that comes in handy if it does happen to sit outside. It is activated by a button in the cab. The transmission is an Eaton Roadranger 8 speed which shifts nicely. There are four forward gears with a high and low range. Reverse and granny gear can also be run in either high or low range. The clutch works nicely with no issues. The engine makes good power and has no known leaks. She keeps good temperature and good oil pressure at all times. The suspension is springs all around. This is an airbrake truck with air at the back for your trailer. We also have a 7 pin RV style connecter at the back as the trailer we use has electric brakes. A Tekonsha Prodigy electronic brake controller is installed and included with the truck. The cab is pretty bare bones and does show its age, as you"d expect. The trailer is a 1999 Kaufman 3/4 car wedge. The VIN for the trailer is 14CFW4834X1000416. It is 48" in length from end to end. There are flip out extensions that fold out over the front of the trailer and ad 33 inches to the 48" length for a total available deck length of 50"9. This is a very, very well made trailer...not like some of the cheap crap you see some guys running. The structure of the trailer is solid with no visible rust. The ramps are solid steel, not that wire mesh junk. The overall width of the trailer is 91.5 and the ramp width is 31.5 each. The trailer has 3x 7,000lb axles. All three axles have electric brakes. All six tires are in good condition. All of the lights work. There are twelve chain tie downs, each with cluster hooks. The rear two will need new clusters as the finger hooks have broken from use and age. The trailer is in good working condition and can be put right into service, as can the truck. This is a great set up. The truck runs, drives, turns and stops great. The trailer pulls nice and straight. If you"re looking to get into the auto transport business or if you"re a dealer like me, this is a great way to get into it for not a ton of cash. Guys run duallies with these trailers all the time and boast about service costs, ect. The problem with running a dually is that you"ve got to have that thing turned up to 11 (and run them hard) to pull 20,000lb and get anywhere. Running a dually that hard is very hard on the engine and transmission (not to mention that a 1 ton dually should have airbags added to the rear leaf springs and upgraded brakes just to safely pull this kind of weight. While the per service costs may be slightly less, a truck like this that is made to haul weight has far fewer trips to the shop because she is barely working to pull a load like this. On the title, this truck is rated at 80,000lb GCWR. I had it registered at 40,000lb. The truck weighs 15,000 empty (according to the title) and the trailer weighs 5,500 empty. Three normal cars gives me a total weight of roughly 31,000lb total. With this truck, you don"t even know it"s back there...seriously. Towing this trailer fully loaded is like walking the dog...she barely works. You can get into the business with this and then, as you grow, upgrade to a 6/7 car trailer and not need to replace the truck. I just laugh when I see a dually going 50 up a hill with clouds of diesel pouring out of the exhaust as I just roll past without even dropping a gear. If you"re going to do this, do it right. I was going to get a dually at first but I am so glad I didn"t. I was running this rig plus an F-450 rollback. My new 4 car rollback is going to replace both of my old trucks so I only have to register, insure and service one truck. This will make someone a great hauler. My reserve is very, very reasonable. This truck has never left me down, ever. I bought it off of the man I lease my warehouse from. He is a retired heavy truck mechanic / truck stop owner who is ridiculously picky about all of his equipment. His farm is full of trucks, tractors and other equipment (most older than I am). Everything there is on a batter tender and will fire right up anytime he needs it. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding.
