This truck was built in Oakland, California in 1946. There were only 349 Peterbilts built in 1946. The model is a 354 and the VIN is 113016. This truck was originally powered by a Cummins HR165 Motor. It had a five speed main box and a three speed Brownie and worm drive rear end.
The original owner of this truck was from Watsonville, California. The truck was used to haul produce in the Watsonville Salinas Valley.
The second owner was General Produce Transportation in Watsonville, Ca. The truck was used to haul refrigerated refer trailers from the packing sheds to the San Francisco Oakland produce market and sometimes to the Los Angela"s produce market. In the later years, General Produce used the truck to haul the farm produce from the fields to the packing sheds and to shuttle trailers around the yard.
The Third owner was from Lodi, California. It was purchased through the Truck Gazette Magazine in 1992. There were several improvements done by this owner. The motor was changed to a Cummins FFC 350 and the transmission was changed to a RTO 9513. The auxiliary transmission was swapped to a Twin Counter-shaft brownie and air ride suspension and SQHD rear ends were added. The Holland Sliding 5th wheel place was added, Ross power steering, a later front axel, and other odds and ends.
The truck was used locally in the Lodi-Stockton area to pull a Murrey 16 tire expando low bed trailer. They hauled California Purple permit loads up to 121,000 lbs gross weight.
The truck was then sold to Peterbilt of Bristol where it received a new paint job and other odds and ends.
I purchased the truck from the man who owned Peterbilt of Bristol and had it hauled home to Georgia.
