1947 Seagrave Open Cab Fire Engine
The Seagrave Company is the oldest fire engine manufacturer still making new fire engines today.
Seagrave ad, circa-1940 (above), shows the sleek styling that made the waterfall grille design of pumpers popular among fire departments for 14 years (1937 to 1951), and popular among collectors of antique fire engines for about the past 30 years (ever since the fire engine hobby really gained popularity, around 1970).
Nerstrand Fire Dept is on the hood. Nerstrand is located in MN.Seagrave’s own V-12 power. Its bigger engine, the J, displaced 906 cubic inches. J-200 stamped on motor. Check photos for details.The Seagrave’s V-12 engine is a flathead configuration, with two spark plugs per cylinder and dual distributors to ensure complete ignition. Seagraves V12 was based upon a Pierce Arrow V12 but was manufactured entirely by the Seagrave Corporation in Columbus, OH.Monster Stromberg carburator. Looks like DDR-55 model.This tapered-hood styling with a waterfall grille dated to 1935 at Seagrave until 1952, when the 70th Anniversary models, distinguished by the siren in the center of the hood, were introduced.Truck has been stored outside.
