Offered for sale here is a very rare 1956 Mercury big back window tow truck. Truck is a rust free truck from California and comes with a clear California Pink Slip (title). Sheet metal is gorgeous. Look at the pictures. I beleive that Ford only made 1100 big back window cabs in the 56 model year and only three were used on this size of truck.This was a show truck new and very state of the art at the time. I am 68 years old and it was my father"s truck new. When my father became ill when I was only 18 years old, I drove this truck to support my family. I have virtually owned this truck all my life and it has never been offered for sale before. Truck has been stored the last 12 years and has not been run since. I feel it is time to find my truck a good new home. It ran fine when parked and I know the motor, trans, and 2 speed rear end are all in tact. I"m sure the truck will need fuel system refurbish and brakes rebuilt to be safe and functional. Cab is the same as the pickups of this era and parts are readilly available such as mechanical, gas tanks, cosmetics etc at very reasonable prices. The wheels are the original split rims and I have an upgrade set of 5 lug tubeless wheels and tires including spare that goes with this truck. It has a rare factory radio with ceiling speaker, factory mechanical tachometer that runs off the distributor, factory hood scoop, 312 Y block engine, 4 speed transmission with 2 speed rear end, and vacuum assist brakes. This is a Custom Cab model and I have the side mouldings that go around the door glass where you can see small holes.They are still in my home in California and should be back with the truck by the time this listing ends.Wrecker was shop built to mimmick a 600 Holmes of the era . It has period correct dollie wheels, Tulsa 20 ton winch run off trans PTO, Holmes sling for cars and heavy duty truck tow bar as well.
