Ron...*** Untitled Document "The name is different, but the products and service speak for themselves" 1961 Cadillac DeVille Miller-Meteor Volunteer Series Ambulance ***THIS VEHICLE COMES WITH A BILL OF SALE ONLY***
The Ambulance that I’m offering for sale is in fact what people like to refer to as a “Barn Find”… The story goes that the fellows I purchased this car from a few years ago, that this was a Southern Alberta Ambulance and that it hadn’t seen the road in over 25 years (not including the few years that I have owned it, as it sat all this time tucked away in a barn (technically this was actually from B.C. according to the window sticker)…
The guys I purchased this from bought it for the soul purpose of using the motor and transmission for a Hearse they were restoring… One thing that I appreciated about these guys is they didn’t do what many would in that situation, they chose to un-bolt and disconnect everything so as not to ruin the car for someone else to restore it…
It’s come to a stage in my life to get rid of some of my projects, as I’ve come to the realization that I will never live long enough to do all of them, so here I am giving someone the opportunity to restore a unique and rare Professional Car…
What you’re getting is a virtually untouched and unmolested Ambulance, minus the aforementioned missing motor and transmission… Please note: The colour is Red and White, the tag under the hood says it was originally Olympic White...
Thomas A. McPherson [author of the iconic American Funeral Cars & Ambulances Since 1900 book] has been quoted saying the following about this exact car: The vehicle in the photos you sent appears to be a 1961 Miller-Meteor "Volunteer" ambulance. Prices for the 48-inch headroom Volunteer began at $11,309 and, in interior spaciousness and headroom, it was second only to the iconic M-M Guardian (the fabled M-M high headroom unit with its flamboyant styling). The Volunteer was a favourite with fire and police department rescue squads as well as hospitals and others requiring an extra-capacity four-litter ambulance.
