1977 Maxim 100’Aerial Ladder truck. Strong running Detroit 8V 71 Diesel engine coupled to an Allison automatic transmission, air brakes, power steering. Just over 30,000 miles on the odometer. This is an exceptionally clean truck that has been used for parades and displays for the past 17 years. It runs and stops great. Despite its size it is a very easy truck to drive. Recent work includes:
Tires/Wheels: ALL of the rubber has been replaced with new 11R 22.5 radials mounted on new one piece rims on the front and rear outers. Replaced the rear inner rims with reconditioned/used single piece 22.5” rims. All of the tires have less than 50 miles on them. Total cost of the rubber/wheels was $5,600.00
Batteries: Replaced both 8D batteries three weeks ago with new NAPA batteries.
Fluids: Changed the oil and filter two weeks ago. Rear axle fluid, coolant, transmission fluid and filters, diesel filters all changed within the last 500 miles.
Issues: The truck was taken out of service in 2003 due to the ladder failing its certification. The ladder still works, but has a slight twist and the metal is thin in certain locations. The buyer will be required to sign a statement, as a condition of the sale, that the ladder cannot be used for its intended purpose. Also, one of the lugs on the right rear outer wheel was snapped off (see photo) when the wheels and rubber were being replaced. I can replace this at cost to the new owner or you can drive it as is.
Other: The truck has always been stored inside since purchase. Over the past ten years the truck has had all new leaf springs on front, the cooling system was completely redone to include re-cored radiator, all new hoses, thermostats etc. Shifter cable replaced. Many new hydraulic hoses installed. The alternator and starter were rebuilt. All wheel seals were replaced in 2016. It comes equipped with the main ladder and an assortment of ground ladders only – no other equipment comes with the truck. The compartments are all empty. The truck has been stored indoors always and is titled, registered and insured in my name in the state of Florida. I would be confident to drive it home to any of the 48 states, but being mindful it is a 43 year old truck.
