From the time of manufacture to their specs in New York in 1977 this fire engine was well cared for by the Slackwood Vol. Fire Co. in Lawrenceville, N.J. In 2005 I was lucky enough to acquire it and it has been entertaining kids and its owner with rides and climbing on the unit and lots of pumping for the last 10 years. One of its more unique features is 2 pumps. The main 1750 gal/minute Hale pump off the transmission is the normal pump arrangement but it also has a booster pump coming off a power take-off which could pump on the go and feeds the booster hoses. It has a deck gun which with straight and spray nozzles can be fed by up to 4 hoses. It has a 500 gal. water tank. It has two front wig/wag lights as well as 2 4 lamp mars lights of its vintage. An electronic siren feeds 2 100 watt speakers as well as the customary Fed Q siren plus 2 3" Grover air horns which caused it to get the nick name of the Queen Mary with its deep throated voice. The are 4 retired air pacs on board as well as assorted hoses. The main hose bed has been converted with oak seating to accommodate parade riders. To round off the ease of driving is power steering which can be steered with your little finger. It handles well at express way speeds. When you take its picture you are in the picture because of the high reflection from the shiny paint, lots of chrome and gold foil decoration. Fire Engine is also being offered locally.
