Thinning the heard. I"ve had this truck 5 years or so. It is a 1978 International Transtar 4200, 8V71 Detroit 333 hp @ 2300 rpm, RTOF 9513 13 speed transmission, new mufflers, elbows, and chrome stacks, less than 200 miles on complete service oil change, fuel filters, oil filter and air filter. I just spent $800.00 last week putting new rear pinion seal in the rear end and 2 new Yolks. The steer tires are almost brand new, rear tires are very nice, all the gauges and lights work, Dome light the fuel gauge even work! The truck runs out around 73 mph wide open. The engine runs very strong and isn"t a bad leaker. The driver side valve cover seeps some oil. I updated the passenger side valve cover to the aluminum new style and it does not leak. I just have not come up with another one yet for the driver side. It smokes a little upon start up then burns clean once warmed up. The right bank will smoke just a little longer than the left bank, but cleans up not long after. The 13 speed transmission shift as it should and does not jump out of any gears or make any abnormal noises. Clutch feels strong and truck stops as it should. I don"t know how much brake life is left as it still has the factory dust covers on it. It is showing 252,298 miles and 5908 hours. I don"t know if the miles are original or not, but i feel they could be especially since it still has the original seats. The front end is tight and does not roam all over the road, Has power steering and reyco spring suspension. The paint is not new by any means, has some scuffs and chips here and there, but has a good appearance and holds a good shine. The interior is very good for the age and is all there except for the bottom driver side door panel as you will see in the pics. The truck has a/c and is all there, but does not blow cold. The old truck is a lot of fun to drive. This would make a great truck to take to the shows or would make a great farm truck or lowboy truck. There aren"t many old 4200"s left around and you sure don"t run across one that is unmolested, original and this clean everyday. I"ve tried to cover everything about the truck. If I left something out or you have any questions, feel free to email me.
