Strong 400M, 4-speed, 2WD. Right at 100K miles. Hydraulic brakes, no CDL required. Runs and drives. This truck was used to deliver sheds for many years. As a result the hydraulics, bed and frame are in very good shape. Front tires good, rear tires excellent. New front coil springs. Two brand new batteries. Recent carburetor rebuild. With the exception of the light bar, all lights including blinkers and backup lights function as they should. Horn and wipers work. Steel bed works excellent, as does the winch. Clutch linkage is worn, which results in a grind on shifting; which seems to be remedied by double-clutching. Parking brake engages but does not hold. There is an exhaust leak somewhere under the truck. I think it is somewhere between the manifold and muffler. The cab is very rusty but could be repaired or with 8 bolts swapped. The doors, hood and fenders are less rusty and definitely repairable.
Is this a truck you can jump in and open a towing company with? Probably not. Is this a truck that with a bit of work could be used reliably for hobby-type towing? Absolutely. I have hauled 5000 lb Cadillacs around with this baby and while she’s not winning any races, gets the job done effortlessly.
