1985 International S1754 roll back with a 9.0L engine and 5spd Spicer transmission. No wheel lift. GVWR is 26,500 but I"ve driven it as a personal truck, not commercially. I will say everything I can think of about this truck in the listing so please read it all. This truck is located half an hour east of Columbus, Ohio. It is also listed locally.
It does run and drive, but the local International dealership recommends installing a remanufactured transmission and possibly a PTO unit for the bed operation. The transmission makes a lot of noise in gear and while idling in neutral, but I did drive it to and from the dealership without problems.
Now that the bad is out of the way, let"s cover daily operation.
Out of all the guages, only the speedometer, air brake pressure, and oil pressure work. No RPM, no fuel, and unsure of if the coolant temp works or not.
The air brakes do have a leak, but as long as the truck is running, it will push enough air to keep it full. It only leaks out if sitting off for about 12 hours or more.
This truck has a new starter, air compressor for brakes, alternator, ignition switch, and a firewall solenoid all installed within the last year. This truck starts everytime without problems even if it"s below freezing. For faster starting in the cold, starting fluid can be sprayed in the intake to prevent extra wear on the starter.
I also replaced the engine mounted fuel filters, but every so often the truck will stall out. Pop one filter off, put it back on and the truck starts right back up and keeps going.
The bed is all steel and 17 feet long. This bed isn"t rusted out underneath like a lot of the older trucks. The guides for the bed do need greased before continuing operation, but that"s simple. The winch works, but sometimes the winch brake doesn"t hold, causing it to slowly release the winch cable. To remedy this, I keep light pressure on the winch lever while operating the bed tilt and roll to keep the cable tight.
This truck could be a good project for a medium duty roll back for local use. Do I think it would make it across multiple states? Probably not. Would I try it if I was buying it? Probably. There"s no guarantee of how long the transmission will last. This is sold as is with no warranty or guarantee of anything other than me being 100% honest and upfront with the buyer.
