1990 CHEVROLET (isuzu) NPR CAB OVER TOW TRUCK WRECKER
This is a nice wrecker unit but needs transmission work. When I got it, the forward gears would not work. It came with a transmission that was supposed to be good but when I put it in, no reverse but now has forward gears. I just never got back to working on it, as I have another tow truck and bobcat to use. I never planned on using it commercially, just for my classic cars. The 3.9 isuzu motors in these trucks routinely sell used for $4000. I was maybe going to just sell the motor and put a chevy drivetrain in it, but never got to it. This would also be a great truck to use a classic coe snubnose cab on, for a classic tow truck that you can get good mpg"s with. Below are the details.
MECHANICAL
This has the isuzu 4bd1t 4-cylinder turbo diesel 3.9 liter engine. These engines are very tough, have good power, and are efficient work horses. You can also mod them to have a lot more power. This engine runs perfect. No blue smoke at all, even cold start. It starts up perfectly. Sounds nice. No leaks, or weird knocks. Turbo spools up fine. It"s a very good engine that should have hundreds of thousands of miles left in it. The transmission has forward gears and no reverse. It could be something simple to fix it. I don"t really know. There is no slipping or anything, just no movement whatsoever. The PTO unit is not hooked up to the transmission. After I got the transmission in and found that I had no reverse, I didn"t hook the PTO back up because I knew I"d have to be working on it again. Brakes work well. Needs tires but would be usable around a lot. This truck is an HD dually but has 16 HD wheels which is nice. Load rated 16 tires are readily available and cheap.
WRECKER UNIT:
This is a Jerr dan unit. I"m not sure on the exact model but it is HD. The truck is short but built very heavy duty. The truck and wrecker unit was designed to get cars out of tight spots, repo work. The truck is short and the wheel lift goes side to side with a sharp angle if wanted. Wheel lift extends also hydraulically and has hydraulic wheel wings. You can repo a car fast, without getting out. The truck is heavy duty enough though to haul just about anything. It also has a boom with twin cylinders that lifts and extends, a sling lift, and Large hydraulic winch. All the wrecker stuff worked when I last had the PTO hooked up. It"s been a few years but everything should work still. May need some tlc but nothing major.
INTERIOR:
It"s pretty basic and all business, but does have a/c. The belt is off, so I assume it needs charged. drivers seat wore pretty good. heater, lights, wipers, etc. etc. all work. The pics pretty much explain it.
EXTERIOR:
Pretty straight overall. Would probably shine up good with the decals removed and a buffing. Passenger rear corner is pushed in. Easy to push out with a porta-power and I may get to that soon and I can guarantee that it will be done for you, unless you"d like to do it yourself. Doors open/close as the should. cab tilts and locks as it should. Small hole in floor where drivers foot would sit. Easy repair and I can do that also if you"d like.
