1993 Peterbilt 378 The Rat Rod
If you’re looking for a truck that gets a crowd around it wherever it goes then this is the truck for you. If you like feeling that the paparazzi is following you like a movie star then this is the truck for you. If you want 10,000 Facebook fans then this is the truck for you.
If you DON’T like having your picture taken wherever you go, stay away from this truck. It is the most photographed Peterbilt out there. She constantly gets her picture posted on the internet and Facebook by people that see it on the road. We built this truck from a clunker I found in the weeds, it took countless hours of rebuilding to make her a working girl again.
Here are the things we have done to it. All hoses and wiring that needed replacing have been replaced with new components to make the truck function well and to be safe. We are a safety minded company, this truck passes every inspection it goes through at ANY state inspection chicken coop there is across the country. This truck runs over the road and has been running coast to coast with the exception of California.
The truck pulls a lo-pro tri-axle step deck, hauling heavy machinery and equipment every single day. It can gross up to 95,000 with this combination and does so without any problems. The engine was rebuilt several years ago before it was parked by the previous owner. I can only attest to what he told me and how the truck performs on a daily basis. Blow-by and oil consumption is very very low, the engine is not tired and this truck is ready to pull whatever you need to pull.
The truck has all new a/c components, new alternator, new belts, new oil pan gasket and recently had the overhead ran. It runs perfect, it"s a 93 detroit 425 hp engine. I replaced the turbo with a high performance turbo for more power, now it pulls as good as any of the 15 475 caterpillars that I have. The gearing is 4:10 gears with a new front driver differential. The transmission is 1 year old, we replaced the transmission with a 13 speed, it had a nine speed, we needed gearing for the heavier loads that we pull.
The truck has 75% virgin Yokohama tires on the second axle with 95% virgin match yokes on the final axle. It"s running Michelin steer tires xza2 with 80% rubber on them, the front end has completely rebuilt hangers, front and rear as well as new kingpins. The truck steers like a new one down the road. All rear suspension bushings have been replaced and then a 3 axle alignment was performed for tire longevity. Tanks were painted flat black, with 6 inch polished straps, 6 polished aluminum wheels as well, I do not run hub covers on this because I want to see the rusty unpainted hubs sticking through highly polished wheels, it is an amazing contrast on new versus old.
The side boxes under the doors have been powder coated black, with Peterbilt flaps hanging from both ends. We installed single round headlights on JJ brackets and 359 side fender lights to be legal and to look old school. The sail panels were removed from the bunk leaving original gray primer from the factory and then the bunk was re-huck bolted, looks very trick.
The deck plate, headache rack and side toolboxes are all new with the past year, truck has strobes for wide loads on top, in the grill and on the rear ss flap hangars. The grill surround was painted flat black and we built a custom laser cut spider web grill out of 3/16 steel, then covered the back of it with stainless steel mesh, it’s a very trick piece and it the heart of the resto-mod. I carried the theme over to the door with side window visors that resemble spider webs as well. The visor is a reverse bow tie with the led minis installed in it. We removed the original cab light and horns from the top of the cab and added the minis to the visor it’s a really cool look at night with a v pattern when lit.
The air cleaners have been powder coated as well as the air cleaner lights in the front and rear, the screens have been chopped on the cleaners and there are led lights inside the cleaners, only one cleaner is functional the driver’s side is a dummy as this truck came equipped with only a right side air cleaner. The stainless steel stacks are miter cut and are 8 inches in diameter.
The interior is in very nice condition with some rat rod touches like vice grips custom made for window cranks etc. Brand new matching leather two tone red/black seats inside. Extended shifter and boot chrome everywhere in-side. Train horns, custom wheel, blue tooth sound system with amps a sub box, satellite radio, on and on it goes.
This truck runs every single day making dollars, give us a call at 423-254-1262
