Up for sale is a 1997 E-One Pumper truck with 143K mile. IT RUNS & DRIVES BUT THE ENGINE NEEDS REPAIR. Engine is a Detroit 40 series.
It was de-commissioned and sold at auction by our local fire district. I am acquainted with one of the mechanics there and he told me the following: Truck was used as a spare for the past few years and was rotated around the stations when their pumpers were in for service. While sitting at the maintenance facility, a mechanic checked the oil one morning and found level to be high. They drained oil and found coolant in oil. They then dropped oil pan and found coolant to be leaking from seal of cylinder # 1 liner. Fire district opted not to make repairs. Oil pan was re-installed and oil replaced. Truck was then moved around facility (being run for no more than a few minutes at a time) with no coolant in the engine. The mechanic advised that the engine was never run with coolant in the oil. I purchased the apparatus at auction and proceeded to put Bars stop leak in the coolant reservoir along with water. I then drove the apparatus approximately 6 miles to where it is being stored now. The oil level has not risen since I did this; however, there is a milky residue in the oil indicating that some water has leaked in. I assume that since the oil level has not risen, the water leaked in prior to the Bars Stop Leak taking effect. This truck runs and drives great at the moment… but as stated… IT NEEDS REPAIR.
