I am offering my 1997 GMC bucket truck up for sale. It"s a former asplundh truck, and I purchased it 6 years ago with 31,000 miles on it. I use the truck locally, and haven"t put too many miles on her, but she has been used for tree work regularly and has not been sitting.
The truck runs and drives well, she shifts good, she passes inspection every year and has just passed an inspection in October of this year. heres all the details I can provide on the truck:
The truck was painted in October of 2014. In August of 2014, we had a new clutch installed, which was roughly 2000 miles ago. In March or April of 2014, we replaced the bucket and pin during our routine yearly di electric inspection. All other pins have always checked out fine and have been greased regularly by my employees or I. I believe we put a main pin on the lower bucket on this truck a few years ago, when the inspection company recommended it may need replacing prior to the following inspection. (I will have to go back to my records, as I have a few bucket trucks, and we prefer our aerial lifts be in the best possible condition for insurance reasons.) but, the truck has never caused us any bucket concerns or down time due to any faults in the lifting system. She"s always gone to work, and returned home with a job done.
November of 2014 she had the front tires replaced. October of 2015 she had one rear tire replaced in the rear, the others have plenty of tread. The brakes were done in 2013 front and rear with rotors and pads, etc... Other than regular service and oil changes, nothing much has had to done to her. She"s been very dependable.
The Kubota pony motor works fine we use it all the time.
There are a few things about the truck worth mentioning. She was workin on municipal work last fall and an employee had a tree stump drop too close to the truck and it caught one of the toolbox doors. The door was bent very badly and I removed the door. It"s a shame because the truck was just painted. I haven"t found a replacement door for the truck, but they are available. I have the original door, and I will certainly include it with the truck, but it is dented pretty bad and I am unsure if it can be repaired. We use the cubby without the door for our tree removal ropes during work.
The heaters fan control is missing, the plastic knob. We have a small pair of pliers for it and have used it to turn the metal dial when we wanted heat. I am unsure it can be fixed without replacing the whole dash assembly, but the heat does work great, and we have just lived with it as we don"t spend a lot of time in the cab.
The fuel gauge works, but it is not accurate. The truck will run out of fuel at the 1/4 mark. It has a large saddle tank, and when full, the gauge will show way last the full mark. All our employees are aware of it and we lived with that as well.
The headache rack has been re weeded in a few areas. When I got the truck, it had some of the pipes busted, so we mig welded then back together. The front rack was a little bent, and we straightened it with a jack. It"s in good useable shape, and functions well, but worth mentioning. It could certainly get straightened some more in areas and maybe some new black paint put on it.
I know there is a small manifold leak in the exhaust. I brought it to a mechanic shop and skated if it could be fixed. The mechanic looked it over and told me a lot of time would have to be put getting into the manifold area, and the leak was very minor, and a common issue with these 366 truck motors. He said it wouldn"t cause any damage, many it"s better to leave it alone than tie the truck up for some time, as I am always doing tree service. I heeded his advice. The truck still has a small manifold leak, but hasn"t caused any issues for me. The mechanic looked at it 4 years ago.
I noticed a few months ago the oil pans drain plug will leak a little. It has an o ring on it. I think it"s a repair plug, neither coarse threads and self tapped into the pan. We check oil levels weekly, mama this truck may need half a quart over its intervals, so it isn"t leaking a lot. I have another truck with an oil pan that just came into my possession. I am going to order a new oil pan gasket and do a swap. If the truck sells prior to me getting to it, I will be happy to include the pan and gasket. It doesn"t need it, it only drips a very little, but it"s something worth mentioning, and I do like to stay on top of these things. That"s the only other issue I am aware of with the truck that sticks out to me.
This truck has been very dependable for us. I have purchased another, taller bucket truck, and I hate to let this one go, but we aren"t going to need it as much anymore, and it would be a shame for this truck to sit unused. If interested, feel free to contact me prior to making an offer. I don"t have to sell the truck, there are always trees to cut out there, but I am willing to entertain a serious offer on the truck, given the busted toolbox door and some minor issues I mentioned. This truck has always been hard working, dependable and a good worker for us. She will make any new Owner her money back hands down. I am currently using the truck, so the mileage may change by a few miles or so. Thanks for looking.
