Here is a 2001 Ford F550 rollback with a 7.3 liter Powerstroke engine and 4-speed automatic transmission. It has a Danco 19 foot, 5 ton aluminum body without a 2 car lift, 17,500 GVW. It now has 186,460 miles, although that will increase a little since I still have 2 cars to move before it is gone.
The truck is in good shape. The cab has no rust and good paint, but does have a number of dings and dents as can be expected for a truck this age. The air conditioner blows cold, and the interior is in good shape. The rubber flooring has no tears or stains. The bench seat has a tear on the passenger side which has been well-taped, and there is a decent seat cover on it. The windshield will need to be replaced since it has a crack, and is pitted.
The engine is strong, smooth, and does not blow any smoke. The batteries, 2 injectors, serpentine belt and tensioner, and fuel filter were replaced early last year along with the rear brake pads. The ball joints, stabilizer links, front rotors and pads were replaced this summer. The tires have plenty of tread left. The rear wheels have been balanced, but the front tires have had balancing beads installed, which seems to cause an occasional slight “hop” at around 35 mph. The only issue that I have had with this truck is on two occasions, pulling a long or steep hill with a heavy load, the MIL has come on with a P1211 code (ICP not as expected). There was no loss of power or smoke, and the light went out a few miles later. I have tried to duplicate it with my scanner attached, but have not been able to duplicate the problem, and all read normal. The transmission shifts as it should.
The truck frame and rollback body are also in good shape. The frame has the surface rust/peeling paint that would be expected on a truck of this age. The rollback works smoothly and quietly. The winch works well, but the freewheeling clutch does not disengage (likely a broken nut on the handle shaft which should be a relatively easy fix). The bed is in good shape, but the headboard, toolbox, and rear lightbar could use a good wirebrushing and paint. There is a class III receiver and trailer brake controller so you can pull a trailer behind it. It also has removable side rails, but I forgot to get pictures of them. A full set of chains is included.
This has been a great truck for me, but I really don’t use it enough to justify the high registration, insurance, and maintenance costs. I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere, in fact last year I took it on a 2000 mile round trip to Illinois without any issues. I have tried to describe it accurately, maybe a bit on the harsh side, but feel free to contact me with any questions, and I welcome anyone who wants to come inspect it. I can deliver it up to 100 miles from Phillipsburg, NJ. A $500 non-refundable deposit is due within 48 hours of the auction end, and the balance in cash or cashier’s check on delivery.
