You are looking at an immaculate example of a true heavy spec boom truck. The truck itself is a Western Star WB123084S, a derivative of the 4900 model. You could sum this truck up as heavy duty, reliable, and low use, but if you want more information, read the following:
Drivetrain:
The engine is a Cummins N14 Celect Plus red top rated at 460 HP. The truck has extremely low miles for its age with only 252,000 original miles on the clock. Know that this truck has none of the expensive emissions problems associated with newer models. The tranny on this truck is again very heavy spec, an Eaton Fuller RTLO 18918B overdrive manual transmission. It is smooth, with absolutely no play in any gear, and shifts perfect. The clutch is in great shape. The truck just received an oil change. The truck is equipped with a PTO and it functions great. This truck drives as if it was off the show room floor.
Suspension:
The truck has twin steer axles with twin power steering boxes. The front axles are Meritor/Rockwell FL 941 axles, rated at 20,000 pounds each. Front suspension is spring, with more than ten leaves on each side of each axle. The rear axles are Meritor RT 46-164P EH, rated at 23,000 pounds each axle, mounted on a heavy duty Tuftrac spring suspension. These axles are full four way lockers. Even though the truck has a spring suspension both front and rear, you would never be able to tell from the driver"s seat- the ride on this truck is smooth and comfortable, likely thanks to the extensive amount of rubber bushings and sheets between the leaves, making the truck immensely capable both on and off road. Power is sent to the ground via a strong 4.30 rear ratio. The truck is completely double framed from front to rear with two 3/8 frames. Total GVWR on this truck is 86,000 pounds- all from the factory. Also should be noted, that although the truck is twin steer, the turning radius is not much more than a normal truck.
Features:
The truck is very well equiped. Every button, switch and light works as they should. The truck has a full gauge package with 16 separate gauges. Truck is equiped with a on board Datastar computer. The truck has an MP3 radio that can play MP3 CD"s as well as an aux input for easy connection to a phone. The speakers on the truck work great. The truck has an aftermarket Webasto cab heater. The AC blows ice cold. The ride is fantastic, like I said earlier, it drives like new. The seats are very comfortable cloth National seats. The passanger seat is extra wide, and none of the seats have any rips or rears. It has a large rear window for excellent visibility. The truck was recently completely detailed inside and out.
Crane:
The crane mounted on this unit is a National 800C rated at 20 tons. National is the boom truck branch of Grove, the best brand in the crane industry. The crane has a 3 section boom with 60 feet of boom and almost 70 feet of reach. The crane is equipped with a top-of-the-line Cranesmart LMI system with a built in scale. A total of four hydraulic outriggers keep the machine planted on the ground during operation. The crane is very easy to operate and has controls and accelarator pedals on both sides of the machine for optimum flexibility. There are many lights mounted on the boom for nightime visibility. The crane also has auxillary cooling fans with manual overide. The operating area has a steel floor that you can walk around in. The crane is in excellent operating conditions, has no leaks on any of the hydraulics, and everything works like it should. The included block is a 12.5 ton Johnson block and works great.
Bodywork:
The exterior of the truck is in excellent condition. The paint on the cab looks excellent with no door dings or scratches. The color is a pure white with black fenders with rubber fender extenders to keep the nice paint job clean. The truck has aluminum diamond plate fender covers for the front steer axles, you can easily walk from the cab to the crane area without having to get down. The crane was recently re painted in a nice cream color, so some old pictures are mixed with the new. There is plenty of storage in the unit with tool boxes all around the area.
Tires/brakes:
All 8 rear tires are new 11R24.5 Dunlop recaps with less than 5,000 miles on them. The steer tires are 445/65R22.5 with about 60-80% thread left. They are mounted on heavy duty spoke rims. Brakes are good and just a few months old.
Miscellaneous:
The truck has a functional fifth wheel for towing trailers or other disabled vehicles. This truck makes for a great road service machine, as the crane is heavy duty enough that it can lift any truck and tow it back to your yard. In one of the pictures you can see us towing one of our Volvo trucks that was suffering from engine issues. The crane has plenty of storage all around, with a usable flat deck in the operating area and plenty of tool boxes and other storage areas all around. There is also a steel headache rack behind the crane. The fuel tanks are large aluminum tanks that can hold 120 gallons of fuel each. There is also a large tank for the hydraulic oil. There are plenty of amber lights and amber strobe lights throughout the vehicle. The truck has a heavy duty steel front bumper. Four new batteries. All of the original manuals are available and in good shape.
