For sale by owner is 2005 Chevy Silverado LLY 6.6L Duramax Diesel, 5sp Allison Automatic , 2wd, Jerr Dan Element wheel lift tow truck wrecker. Due to absence of offers, but tremendous interest price is somewhat lowered now. Offers from EBay members with low feedback ratings will not be considered without preliminary discussion. Miles are going higher at 500 to 1000 a week. Transmission fluid and filters were just replaced (truck run 50,000 since last fluid change), along with air filter. Truck also listed locally. Local pick up only. Come down, sign a sale and drive it back or load on the carrier. Nearest airports are Philadelphia and Trenton.
Truck has 501100 miles on the odometer. It is my only work truck, it is licensed and insured, and will stay that way until the day it is sold. I would be able to take you on any (reasonable length) test drive or test tow, or drive to your mechanic to check it out. The reason for sale is financial; I have to replace it with the new truck or face a huge tax bill for 2016. I do not want to run two trucks, or let it sit doing nothing. There is no lien on the truck, clear PA title is at hand.
Here some background on the truck. I bought cab chassis with plain steel bed in the summer of 2015. It is 2005, and back then it had 450,xxx miles on the odometer. The former owner stated that it was used as a tractor for 5th wheel trailer and after it run its useful life engine and transmission were replaced with units from the truck with only 50,000 miles. I have reasons to take this story for its face value, also there is no paperwork. In my estimate engine/transmission now have between 100,000 and 150,000 miles. Because of the time it took to locate replacement units the truck itself was replaced with another truck, and end up mostly sitting as a spare for several years. It is apparent that interior of the truck – seats, console, floor covering, and, possibly, dashboard and door panels were also replaced at some point(or maybe used in unusually careful way). Currently truck is in LS trim with cloth seats, power driver seat. Power windows, power door locks, factory wireless remote. Condition of the cloth is very decent, with no rips or stains or odors. At the time of purchase truck was mechanically sound, had almost new tires, and was able to pass inspection without any work needed.
Recently transmission fluid and both filters were replaced, along with air filter.
Right after the purchase I had following things done to the truck:
Replaced windshield because of the small crack.
Replaced passenger side rocker panel because of some previous repair gone bad and rust.
Cleaned up the frame and covered it in spray on bedliner (after getting rid of the bed).
Replaced stock rearview mirrors with aftermarket towing mirrors (power and heated, just as stock).
Seller did replace transmission fluid just before the sale.
I replaced engine oil with synthetic Rotella, and replaced oil and fuel filters. Run synthetic ever since.
Head unit (was cheap aftermarket, not factory) was replaced with Pioneer AVIC-6000 with DVD and GPS. Unit has in cab GPS antenna, and in cab mike, and Bluetooth compatible. Screen of the unit is used for the rear camera image. GPS is 2014. Truck has Bose speakers from GM.
Additional USB and power outlets were installed.
Headliner was re-lined and sun visors were replaced with good used units.
New shock absorbers were installed – Rancho on the front and Bilstein in the rear.
In the fall of 2015 I have located Jerr Dan Element (MPL-NG) bed and bought it to install on the cab chassis. The bed serial number is point it to between 2008 and 2010 (per Jerr Dan).
There are following things were done to the bed before/during the installation:
One of the L-arms on the grid was replaced with the brand new one because of bend and wear.
Kingpin and sleeve were replaced. Copper washer was made and installed instead of fragile fiberglass.
High and low pressure hoses to the PTO pump were made new and encased in the sleeves.
Fluid filters were cleaned and replaced. Unit was filled with fresh ATF, as cylinders and valves already contained ATF, and I did not want to mix it with hydraulic oil.
Proximity switches and control module were replaced along with boom wiring, and wheel lift stops at the set tilt and height as it should, there is no guess work.
Winch was disassembled, lubed and serviced. New steel cable was installed.
New fender flares from JerrDan were installed.
Unit was equipped with the camera to assist loading. It is not a “rearview” camera, its currently pointing to the lowered grid, not rearward. Camera has its own in-cab switch, and can be used en-route to observe towed car front.
Sides and pylon were disassembled and sandblasted. After that they were covered in the spray-on bedliner – on the outside and on the underside, and inside the tool boxes. With this kind of cover any blemish can be over sprayed with the can from the store.
Solid ECCO five rotators light bar was installed(one failed and was removed recently), along with some other led lights. Wiring was adjusted to the truck, so there no loose, meaningless wires.
Over 45,000 miles and about a year that I drove this truck following was done to the setup:
Air Ride supplemental suspension was installed in the rear, as it quickly became apparent that stock springs will not do the job. This is basic setup, no compressor, no gauge, just air springs, T-connector and valve. Pressure needs to be checked/added only once in couple month – nothing much to leak through.
Passenger door glass lift was replaced.
Coolant (water) pump was replaced in the engine. While there, serpentine belt was replaced and system was filled with fresh coolant.
Boom hydraulic cylinder and its pins were replaced.
Hoses for boom and, I think, tilt were replaced.
Headlights and roof light were replaced for appearance.
All brake pads and front rotors were replaced for inspection in October 2016. This truck utilizes engine braking, and, if you use it, the brake pads wear very slowly.
Batteries (it takes two) were replaced in September/October. Reminder of one year warranty.
Right side rear axle seal was replaced, along with E-brake shoes on that right side.
Just replaced rear axle front seal – it started leaking slightly.
Recently (January) outer and inner tie rod ends were replaced along with idler and Pittman arms – all MOOG. While there front spindles were replaced and steering damper.
    Driveshaft support bearing was replaced.
    Front tires were replaced.
Overall truck was reliable and never left me stranded. It was out of commission only for four or five days over the course of the year, and three days out of five because it was hard to locate replacement boom cylinder for Jerr Dan.
Truck will come with straps for the wheel grid and wired tow lights(seen in picture). Two factory spacers for the flat/small tires will come with the truck. Dolly mounts will stay with the truck. GM Diesel supplement brochure comes with the truck. You will be able to start towing right away.
I will include following parts with the truck (there about $500 in new parts):
Two wheels – one matching the current rear tires, and another one not matching any of the tires.
New lower coolant hose for the engine.
    New power steering/brakes pump.
New hoses for the wheel lift hydraulics – I think, for the grid and stinger cylinders (total four hoses).
One new (spare) air bag for air ride setup.
E-brake shoes for one side (other side was already replaced).
Dollies are not for sale at this moment, but can go with the truck for $800.
