I BOUGHT THIS LITTLE TRUCK FROM MY MECHANIC"S STEP FATHER WHO"S BIG O/O FOR FEDEX GROUND. LIKE ALL THESE FEDEX TRUCKS THAT I BUY, IT"S EXTREMELY CLEAN, BEEN VERY WELL MAINTAINED & MOST IMPORTANTLY IT"S NEVER HAULED ANY WEIGHT!!! THIS TRUCK WAS ON SINGLE RUNS IT"S WHOLE LIFE, MOST OF HIS TRUCKS RUN 250K MILES PER YEAR FOR 1ST 2 YEARS & THEN HE MOVES THEM TO SINGLE RUNS. HE BOUGHT THIS TRUCK USED FOR A SPECIFIC SHORT DEDICATED RUN & JUST KEPT IT RELATIVELY CLOSE TO HOME. TRUCK STARTED BLOWING HEAD GASKETS IN 6/2012. THEY DID 2 HEAD GASKETS WITHIN WEEK OR SO & FIGURED OUT THERE WAS A BIGGER PROBLEM. 6/29/2012: TOOK TO LOCAL FREIGHTLINER DEALER & THEY REPLACED HEAD & HAD TO CUT BLOCK. WHILE THEY WERE ALREADY IN THERE, THEY WENT AHEAD & PUT RODS & MAINS & NEW LINERS, CLEANED UP & CLEANED UP PISTONS, SO BASICALLY IN-FRAME W/NEW HEAD AT 510K. HE ALWAYS CHANGES THE ODOM WHEN HE DOES A REBUILD (DID ON "04 379 PETE WE BOUGHT LAST YEAR AS WELL) SO RIGHT BEFORE THEY GOT IT BACK ON THE ROAD HE CHANGED ODOM ON 9/2/2012, SO 317K ON REBUILD AT FREIGHTLINER (510K). IN SPRING OF 2014 BURNED UP A FAN HUB & REPLACED. REALIZED THAT PIN TO FAN CLUTCH ON ECM WAS BROKEN, SO R & M REPLACED WITH USED ECM. TRUCK WENT OUT & HE NEVER THOUGHT ANYTHING ELSE ABOUT IT UNTIL I PLUGGED IT UP & QUESTIONED HIM ABOUT IT. HE TOLD ME THE DEAL & GOT ME INFO OUTTA HIS SYSTEM.
CUSTOMER WAS PLANNING ON KEEPING THE TRUCK, SO HE DID ALL BRAKES & NEW CLUTCH A FALL 2015:
9/23/15 (301,759) Replaced all 3 axles of brakes.
10/21/15 (307,589) Replaced Clutch, clutch brake & pilot bearing. Replaced input shaft on transmission. Resurfaced flywheel. Drilled out broken bolts from flywheel housing. Replaced bell housing. Replaced Coolant & transmission fluid.
10/21/15 (307,589) Changed Oil in both differentials w/8 gallons of 75W-90 $ynthetic Oil.
BOTTOM LINE ON THESE FEDEX TRUCKS IS THEY DON"T HAUL ANY WEIGHT ON SUSPENSION OR PULLING, SO ENGINES, DRIVE TRAIN & SUSPENSION DON"T HAVE TO WORK NEAR AS HARD AS NORMAL TRUCKING. THEY"RE ALSO CLOSE TO HOME, SO THEY DO EVERYTHING IN THEIR SHOP TO KEEP THEM AS PERFECT AS POSSIBLE, B/C FEDEX KILLS THEIR SENIORITY FOR EVEN ONE BREAKDOWN/LATE DELIVERY!!!
EXTREMELY CLEAN, WELL MAINTAINED TRUCK THAT IS PRE-2008. BECAUSE OF ALL OF THE TRUCKS GOING TO RUSSIA & VIETNAM FOR THE LAST 8-10 YRS A GOOD MAJORITY OF THE DETROIT POWERED FREIGHTLINERS WENT OUT OF THE COUNTRY! COMBINED WITH THE WAY FREIGHTLINER WAS PUSHING (GIVING MAJOR INCENTIVES) THE MERCEDES ENGINE, THERE ARE VERY FEW 2000-2007 DETROIT POWERED TRUCKS LEFT IN THE UNITED STATES & OF THOSE VERY FEW MOST ARE WORN OUT & HEADED TO MEXICO! BOTTOM LINE IS THERE ARE VERY FEW OF THESE LEFT & YOU"RE NOT GOING TO GO FIND A PRE-EMMISSION TRUCK AS NICE, CLEAN & WELL MAINTAINED AS THIS TRUCK IS!!!
l"LL $AY THE $AME THING ON THIS TRUCK AS I HAVE ON THE LAST 3 DETROIT 14L THAT I"VE $OLD ON EBAY. THIS PRE-EMMI$$ION 14L DETROIT HAS PROVEN TO BE THE MOST RELIABLE & INEXPENSIVE TO MAINTAIN OF ALL THE ENGINES SINCE 2004 (1ST STEP OF EMI$$ION LAWS) AND THEY"RE NOT BULDING ANYMORE EVER!!! DON"T MAKE THE MISTAKE OF SPENDING $10-$20K MORE ON 2008-2010 TRUCKS WITH DPF FILTERS THAT WILL COST YOU $1,000s MORE IN MAINTENANCE & NOT GIVE YOU NEAR THE SERVICE OF THIS PRE-EMI$$ION ENGINE!!!
