This LOW MILEAGE (39000 miles) vehicle is a 2012 International 4300, diesel and has the following features: automatic Allison 6 speed trans, rear air ride rear suspension w/ dump switch for lower load angle, air brakes, air ride driver’s seat, power steering, power windows, power door locks, A/C, AM-FM-CD, with a 22 ft. steel Jerr-Dan “Sharkbed”-wide-low-Pro-alum blade rails and wheel lift, A Code 3 lite bar, work lights, three 48” tool boxes, rear fenders, was purchased “NEW” on / or about May 25, 2013 from World Wide Equipment Sales, Rockdale, Illinois 60436. A Jerr-Dan dealer. It was put into service in early June of 2013 doing police towing for the City of Southfield Michigan. The vehicle was well maintained and had no problems until it was hit (while parked on the road side) by a drunk driver at 4 a.m. May 31, 2015. The vehicle was unoccupied at the time of the collision and our driver suffered no injuries as a result of the collision.
The vehicle that hit our truck was a full size Audi 4 dr. traveling around 80 mph and never hit the brakes before the collision. The Audi hit the driver’s side front corner of our truck bending the bumper corner back into the steering box and busting off the pitman arm and leaf spring thus pushing the front axle back and across until the axle broke free of the frame. The Audi continued to drive under the frame, snapping off the 2 air tanks, driver steps and battery box under the driver’s side door. The driver’s side leaf spring tore open the transmission pan and ripped into the trans fluid pick up screen destroying it and causing the trans fluid to drain out of the transmission.
We re-installed the (bent) front axle back on the vehicle ONLY to facilitate transporting the vehicle and to keep it up off the ground. The original front wheels and tires are included though the driver’s front wheel is bent and the tire is gouged and flat.
At the moment of impact the Jerr-Dan “Shark” bed was fully extended “out” in preparation to load a disabled vehicle that had gone off the roadway into a ditch. The Jerr-Dan bed assembly was not hit in the collision.
The main frame rails of the truck were bent just ahead of the mounts for the Jerr-Dan bed. You can see in the photos how the bed appears to be crooked and not parallel to the frame rails of the truck.
The vehicle was declared a total loss by our insurer and has been paid off. The majority of parts and assy’s on the vehicle are good. Not sure about transmission, steering box no good, air tanks are gone, battery box and batteries are gone. Driver step assy is gone. Air lines to tanks were ripped off, wiring to batteries also ripped from battery clamps. Fuel tank on pass side was hit by leaf spring and ripped open. Oil filter was also “lightly” hit and drips a little oil.
Vehicle was running and P.T.O. was “on” at time of collision
We have additional photos of the truck in our yard in the condition it was in when it was first towed from the accident scene to our yard with the bed still extended out and the front axle missing if you "d like to see those photos just email a request and we"ll send them to you. Note: 2 hydraulic lines were cut to free up the bed so we could push it back into the forward position for transport.
Please feel free to call us or email your questions. Our phone number is on the door of the truck in the photos.
