Cummins ISX Quick Info
The Cummins ISX is the main stream engine offered by Cummins for over the road applications. It is used specifically because of the tremendous power and torque ratings.
Initially designed as a replacement for the forever popular N14 Cummins, the ISX is the next generation of emission compliant, high horsepower engine.
The Cummins ISX has had two main design changes since its release:
CM57O - The original ISX engine, this engine was released as the
replacement for the N14. Designed from the ground up differently than the N14 Cummins, the most noticeable difference was the fuel system and the dual overhead cams. The fuel system on the ISX uses metering and timing valves located in the fuel module to regulate fuel to the injectors by front and rear bank. Cummins also added another camshaft dedicated to engine braking.
