This is a fantastic workhorse of a truck. No pun intended. I used it to carry my draft pair to shows and it carries them like cotton balls. The Vermont mtns slow it down, but they don"t stop it. This truck is geared very low. You will get there, but maybe not quickly over the mountains. On the highway, it goes right along, most efficiently at 60-65mph. The ramping system slides easily out either side and there is very little give under my horses (1400lbs). The box has a curtain for changing your show clothes and for the camper potty. (I HATE fairground porto-johns ewwww) The floors are rubber matted and hose off easily. The walls are butcher block hardwood. The windows all open and close except the off side rear which closes to within 2 but not all the way.
This engine is the hard working straight 6 diesel that Ford made before things got cheap and crappy. I have stored this truck indoors every year from November to April. I go every 2 weeks and start it and run it for an hour. This engine starts first try, every time. . Sub zero in Vermont winters or 106o here in Texas - First turn of the key - every time. The heater will bake you out. The AC works but is not charged currently.
The horse box can be left completely open (for moving hay and makes a nice mobile tack shop) or it can be reconfigured to work for your horses" needs. I use it with two straight stalls across the back for my drafts. They prefer to face the rear, (most horses do if given the option) but they could face the front - it all depends on your traveling preference and where you put the butt bar. I have taken 3 yearlings in straight stalls across the rear facing forward. It can also be made into one box stall for a mare and foal or a moose sized warmblood or what ever you want.
I have camped in this truck; run a mobile tack shop, moved my family and friends, picked up hay, and now I"ve moved my horses across the country. Its a great truck.
