Up for bid is a very rare 1961 Ford F250 4X4, a first and former fire-rescue vehicle from Half Moon Bay, Ca. within the San Francisco peninsula on the coast. Only 380 cab, chassis and cowl units were produced in 1961 and unknown as to how many are left. The truck was built at the Milpitas, Ca. plant in July of 61. The service body was made in Redwood City, just over the hill from HMB. The fire dept. formed their owned in 1960 as I was told and in 61 ordered this truck. I have attempted to contact numerous people to obtain any photos of the rig in it"s glory days, but to no avail. The vehicle was used up until 1997 as a back-up unit and sold to a private party. In 2003, The 3rd owner purchased and used the vehicle on his ranch above the Santa Cruz mountains until 2018 when I bought the truck. It is a numbers matching vehicle with the 292 V-8, 4-speed trans with either the 4.56 or 4.88 rear-end ratio. Top speed is around 50 MPH max. the mileage is also original at 60K plus. The paint appears to be the original Monte Carlo red but could have had a repaint many years ago and has nice patina look to clear coat and preserve. Front seat is like new and was probably re-upholstered way back when as well.
The vehicle runs fine, shifts well with a strong clutch and decent brakes. I drove the vehicle up to around 25-30 MPH and backed off due to the tires being shot and dry-rotted. I have a nice set of only (3) tires with 16 wheels. Still have the original rims, 16.5. The body is very solid for being 57 years old. The floors, pans, fenders, doors and firewall are all solid. The only real rust/rot is on the front lip of the hood. Former owner said the 4X4 and front winch still work but I have not tried. Headlights work, only the hi-beams, all turn signals work including the green arrow indicators on the dash, no brake lights, speedo still works, gas gauge flutters, probably a loose wire, temp gauge not working. The original fan inside the cab still works. All the service compartment doors open, close and lock except for one. Horn still works and there was never a heater installed from the factory. All the glass is decent and appears to be original. I did not test the windshield wipers due to bad blades.
This is really a cool truck if your into the vintage type of fire-rescue vehicles. They don"t come along very often in running condition. I have placed a reasonable reserve on the vehicle based on overall condition. If you have any questions, don"t hesitate to either e-mail me or call, (408)448-1717.
Vehicle dimensions are as follows: total length is 18" and width is 6" 5. This vehicle will fit in an average driveway.
