Here is a nicely equipped knuckleboom truck that is ready to work! As the pictures and VIDEO illustrate, this truck is outstanding! An excellent feature of this truck is that it has none of the temperamental, and expensive, exhaust systems that later models come with. There are no particulate filters to deal with, no Diesel Exhaust Fluid to add, no regeneration cycles to deal with… none of that junk! Just a dependable and simple powertrain!
The Caterpillar diesel engine cranks right up, it has a smooth and even idle, and there are no abnormal noises, smoke or vibrations on it. The Allison automatic transmission is also in good working order; all the gears engage properly, it pulls strong, shifts smoothly, and cruises comfortably on the highway. Since this truck has such a versatile knuckleboom, we have used it for several projects. We have driven this truck out of town a couple of times to pickup items (a large hot tub among them!), we have moved equipment and motors with it, and have used it to mount different accessories. Every time, this truck has performed dependably and trouble free! We would not hesitate to drive this truck cross-country at a moment’s notice!
The National N80A knuckleboom is in solid operating condition. The crane smoothly extends, retracts, and rotates easily, the winch operates properly, and the controls, (both on the left and right side) are also working properly. The pins on the crane feel snug, the outriggers easily lift and level the truck, and the 12’ diamond plate flatbed has proven to be a very convenient feature!
