Up for sale is a 2001 Isuzu NPR box truck with about 255,314 miles on its good diesel motor. It has a sloped deck and heavy duty ramps on the back that are used for loading mowers (or anything else you want to drive inside of it.) This is the truck that I"ve been using for my mowing business and it"s a great running truck that I just don"t use as much as I used to use. I don"t do as much mowing as I used to do and it just doesn"t make sense to keep the truck when it"s not being used very much. Mechanically and cosmetically this truck is in really good shape. I"ve had it serviced regularly and it runs really well.
I used to use an open trailer but switched to the box truck because it"s so much more secure. I didn"t have to worry about weedeaters or blowers disappearing from the trailer or back of the pickup truck while I was mowing behind a house. With the box truck, everything can be locked up when you"re on a job or when you stop to get a drink at the gas station and it saves a lot of time not having to load and unload every night when you"re done mowing for the day. It"s really nice to not have to start and end every day loading and unloading equipment.
The good stuff...The truck is in good condition, it starts right up and the motor runs smoothly. It has an automatic transmission that shifts like it should through all the gears. The brakes are good and it also has an exhaust brake that I use to save a little wear on the brake pads. The inside of the cab is pretty big and will easily hold three grown men without them having to touch each other. That"s the other benefit of the automatic transmission... you don"t have to reach over anyone to shift gears. This truck has a tight turning radius and will turn tighter than my little Toyota pickup truck. The tires have less than 10,000 miles on them and have lots of tread left. The paint on the truck is good, the lights all work (except for one top corner light that was broken by a tree limb), it has air conditioning and a vent in the roof that opens to let in a lot more air than just the two windows do. It has an AM/FM radio and a tape deck (I"ve never played a tape in it but it"s there, just the same.) The inside of the cab is metal and plastic so it"s very easy to clean. The floor is covered in rubber so it"s very easy to blow out or wipe down and keep clean. The cab tilts forward and the motor is very easy to get to and this makes routine maintenance very easy.
The box on this truck is 16" long and I am able to fit a 60 Gravely zero turn mower and two 48 Gravely walk behind mowers inside. It also comes with a rack that holds 4 weedeaters and 2 blower racks. There"s also a place to mount a 5 gal. cooler, a couple of gas cans and a spool of weedeater twine. It also has a side door on the box. This makes getting hand tools, weedeaters or blowers out for small jobs much easier than having to open the whole back of the truck. The pictures show how I have it set up now. The mowers, weedeaters, blowers and other tools do not come with the truck.
The not as good stuff...The emergency brake doesn"t work. It broke a few years ago and I just didn"t see any reason to fix it. The fuel gauge doesn"t work. I"ve fixed this by using the trip odometer and filling up every few hundred miles. The edge of the driver"s and passenger"s seats are worn from getting in and out. It"s not a really big deal. You just need to know that these seats have been sat in a lot. The top of the box suffered some hail damage (like every other vehicle in Knoxville). I have patched the top of the truck but didn"t have it professionally repaired. It doesn"t leak and the inside stays dry. Also, there is a little hole in the floor at the front, right corner of the box. I bought the truck this way and the hole is small and out of the way so I never repaired it. All these things could be fixed if you wanted to fix them. I"ve been using it this way for so long that I just never thought they really needed to be fixed.
The bottom line is that the truck runs good, looks nice and makes the mowing business easier on you. Please give me a call if you have questions or if you want to stop by and check it out.
