This is an exceptionally solid fire truck. I purchased it from Brady Township, Pa. They said that it had been blue, which makes me think it was probably an Air Force truck. I have never seen one of this vintage that is so streamlined. You will notice in the photos that the ladders and hard hoses are enclosed, making a sleek looking body.
The V-8 is very strong. I"ve converted it to 12 volt, with the exception of the siren. To do this I use two 6 volt batteries, and run the sired off of one.
There is no rust to speak of. Most of the plumbing has been removed, but the huge chain driven 3 piston pump is in place. I can let it set all winter, hit the electric fuel pump for a few seconds, and it starts like it had just been ran.
It has the 4 speed, with two speed axle. All work very well. I have had it in a few very hot day parades, no heating problems.
Most of the time since I"ve owned it, it has been on display in the Mid-America Museum of Air and Transportation. It has had thousands of photo taken there with the kids driving it.
Everything works. All lights, siren, kids siren, flashers, brake hold, etc.
It is not a trailer queen. I drive it, parade it, and haul the neighborhood kids. But it looks, and runs great.
