This is a very nice 1929 American La France fire truck, or ladder truck. It is in excellent condition as you can see in the photos. It runs and drives great. It is equipped with 8 different ladders, all of which are in excellent condition.
This truck was originally stationed at the Durango Colorado fire department. It was then sent to the Security, Colorado fire department, where it was nicely restored during the early 80"s. This truck has always belonged to a fire department and has always been stored indoors, so it is in excellent condition. Because it has belonged to the fire department its whole life it does not have a title. The only reason they let it go is they needed the space in the fire station for a new fire truck.
The condition is excellent, but as you can see in some pics there is some paint chips on the edge of the front fenders from the daily activities of a fire stations going on around it for all those years. The front of the ladder box has a dent from a fire fighter sliding a ladder in too hard, but the dent in under the ladders and does not take away from the truck. The paint is very nice, with gold pinstriping and hood lettering. The ladders are in very nice condition for their age and still retain the original tags. Everything works on the truck, from the lights to the siren. All of the chrome is in excellent condition with no pitting or rust. The truck runs and drives great, but it does smoke and has some blow by. The engine is original and has not been rebuilt. The water pump leaks a bit because it needs new packing (packing is included with the truck), and there is a water leak at the water neck that will need attention. The fire fighters said they would drive it in parades and just bring some water along with them and keep the truck topped off. The odometer reads 5000 miles.
The truck is 31 feet total length, and the wheel base is 21 feet.
